Feeling lost?

Dear friends,

Yesterday, I travelled to the US to attend a 9 Marks conference in Washington DC. I left Amsterdam, had a layover in Dublin and made my way to the capital of the US. After a day filled with airports, trains, buses and planes, I finally made it to my hostel. And collapsed into bed. All the things that make travelling fun; site seeing, meeting fellow travellers and tasting the local cuisine and all the rest of it, were relegated to the next day, or in my case, postponed to the next time I’m in the US. I was simply too exhausted to do anything but sleep.

I wasn’t only physically tired, however. I also felt emotionally and spiritually weary. I’d gone through most of the day feeling a little… lost. More than just a little, to be honest.

Amsterdam News

Dear friends,

Just a quick update today to keep you all in the loop of what’s happening in my life, and what is to come in the near future! The last month has been a good one, here in Amsterdam. I’ve been busy, but I think I finally managed to find a healthy equilibrium of work, ministry, community life and rest. At the beginning of August I had a mini break-down because I tried to do too many things, but I realised that burning out doesn’t help to serve the Lord at all. So finding time for myself in the midst of the busyness has been vital. Time to pray, time to read, but also time to drink the occasional cup of good coffee or read a book have definitely revitalised me. I was reminded of 1 Timothy 6:17b during this time (and I’m thankful for it!).

Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.

#Throwback Thursday: Leaving Namibia…

Dear friends,

Today I wanted to share a journal entry I made when I left Namibia at the end of April, exactly 4 months ago. I made it look a bit better and took out all the lame bits that are unfit for the wholesome and flashy internet, but by and large it’s what I wrote down then.

Why do I share this blog post? Because as I skimmed over it the other day I was amazed at the Lord’s goodness and faithfulness.  In this life we have so many questions and doubts and often feel incapable, overwhelmed and insufficient. The Lord knows this and doesn’t expect miracles from us. To him it’s sufficient to trust Him and to simply put one foot in front of the other on this journey we call life. He will do the rest.

So here goes.
